Courtroom Rules and Conduct

What should I wear?

Do not wear ripped jeans or shirts, shorts, tank tops, muscle tees, mini skirts, short dresses, flip flops, tennis shoes, or any other open toed shoes.

Do be modest, business casual attire clothing is appropriate.

Do not Interrupt

Do not speak over or interrupt the judge or the other parties. Wait your turn to share your side.

Be Respectful

Refer to the judge as "Your Honor". Be polite to all the courtroom staff and officers.

No Gum, Sunglasses or Hats

Gum is not allowed in the courtroom, the judge will ask you to remove your sunglasses and/or hats. Best to leave them at home or in the car.

Be Prepared

Be on time, court will not wait for you. Best to be 30 minutes early.

Make sure you have everything you need for your case. Look at the judge and other staff when they are speaking to you, answer loud and clear.

Do not Bring to Court

NO CELL PHONES - Best to leave your cell phone in the car, if you bring it inside the courtroom, be sure to silence or turn your phone off.

NO WEAPONS - Guns or any other type of weapon is not allowed in the courtroom.

When attending court, please take notice of how you present yourself. Your clothes and conduct say more about you than you realize.
